Air sealing services in Fortuna Foothills AZ - a house that stops leaking air

Drafty rooms, a hot upstairs or a power bill that keeps climbing? We find the hidden leaks and seal them in the right order.

What does air sealing actually fix?

Air sealing closes the cracks, holes and gaps that let air move in and out of your house. At Fortuna Foothills Spray Foam Insulation, we offer air sealing services across Fortuna Foothills on their own or as the first step before new insulation, since sealing is hard to get at once the attic is covered.

If one room is always drafty, the room over the garage is never comfortable or the power bill keeps going up, there's a good chance air is slipping through gaps you'll never see, usually up in the attic under the insulation. Those leaks make your heating and cooling work harder, and they can let in moisture that damages wood and leads to mold, so sealing protects the house as well as your comfort. The price and the schedule mostly turn on how much old insulation has to be moved to reach the leaks, how easy the attic is to crawl around in and whether a roof leak or old wiring has to be fixed before anything gets covered. Your written estimate spells out what I found and what I'd fix first, and if the insulation itself is part of the problem, we can talk about attic insulation at the same visit.

Why Fortuna Foothills calls us for air sealing

I look hard before I quote, tell you when a job doesn't need doing and do the work in the right order, so nothing gets buried that shouldn't be.

  • Our own crew does the work

My crew and I do the sealing ourselves, so the person who looked at your attic is the one up there working.

  • Full time since 2023

Before that I spent years keeping up rental properties, crawling into the attics and crawl spaces nobody else wanted.

  • Licensed and insured for attic work

We're licensed and insured, which matters when someone's kneeling on the joists over your living room ceiling.

  • Straight answers before a quote

If your attic's already tight or the real problem is somewhere else, we'll tell you and leave it alone.

  • Satisfaction guaranteed on every job

Insulation hides its mistakes for years, and I'd rather not be the reason you find one.

Air sealing done in the right order

Before we seal anything, we check what your gas furnace, water heater or fireplace needs to breathe, because a tighter house changes that. Then we choose the method by where the leaks are.

  • Sealing the leaks you can't see

Most houses need this, because the leaks that matter sit around can lights, pipes, wiring holes and the attic hatch, under the insulation. We pull the old insulation back to reach them and put it back after, unless it's soaked or full of droppings, since covering that again just keeps the problem.

  • Sealing plus a loose-fill top-up

This is the one that usually wins, because sealing the gaps and then adding blown-in insulation, loose fill blown through a hose, costs less than foam and does the job. We keep it deep at the edges as well as the middle, where a lot of old jobs run thin.

  • Foam when the ducts live up there

If your ductwork runs through the attic, closed-cell foam, a dense foam that blocks moisture, seals the air and insulates in one pass. It costs more, and that's the spot where it's worth paying for.

  • Crawl spaces and basements

Air comes up from below too, so we seal the holes where pipes and wires pass through the floor and walls. If you're planning basement insulation, we do the sealing first so nothing gets covered with a gap behind it.

What happens when you call us about air sealing?

Every job starts with me looking at your house, because the plan depends on where the leaks are and what your appliances need, not on a standard package.

  1. Call or message

Call (928) 259-2086 or send the form and tell us what you're noticing, whether it's a drafty room, a hot upstairs or the room over the garage.

  2. A look up top

I come out myself and get up in the attic or down in the crawl space before any number gets written down.

  3. Your written estimate

It says what we found, what we'd fix first and what we'd leave alone, so you can see the order before anything starts.

  4. Work and walkthrough

My crew and I do the work, clean up after ourselves and walk it with you before we leave, so you see what got sealed.

Air sealing questions we get asked

Is air sealing the same as insulation?

No, they do different jobs. Insulation slows heat through your walls and roof, but it doesn't necessarily stop air from moving through the gaps around it. That's why we seal first and insulate after, so the new insulation isn't fighting a draft.

How do I know which air leaks I can seal myself?

If you can see it, you can usually seal it yourself, like gaps around door frames and where pipes, vents and wires pass through outside walls. The small, hard-to-find leaks, especially in the attic under layers of insulation, are where a pro earns the money. That's most of what we get called for.

Is air sealing safe with a gas furnace or fireplace?

Yes, as long as someone works out first how much fresh air the house and its fuel-burning appliances need. A furnace, water heater or fireplace that's short on air runs poorly and can give off carbon monoxide, which is why that check is our first step. Gaps around a flue should get fire-rated caulk with a metal collar or sheet metal, with proper clearance between the flue and anything that can burn.

How much does air sealing cost in Fortuna Foothills?

Across the US, air sealing on its own usually runs about $500 to $1,500 per job. That's the going range for sealing without new insulation, not our price, and where your house lands depends on how much there is to reach and fix. You'll get your own number from the estimate after I've seen the attic.

How long does air sealing take?

Most of the time goes into moving old insulation out of the way, since it has to be pulled back wherever it covers a spot that needs sealing. A roomy, easy attic goes faster than a low, crowded one with ducts everywhere, and I'll give you my best read on timing once I've been up there.

Should I seal the vents in my attic to stop drafts?

No. Eave, ridge and gable vents and combustion air ducts are meant to stay open to air, and they only work if they do. When eave vents get buried, the attic stops breathing and moisture starts showing up in the framing, so we keep them clear while we seal everything else.

What to know about air sealing in Fortuna Foothills

Yuma County requires a residential building permit for single-family homes, duplexes and townhomes, and its list names new homes, remodels and additions, not air sealing. That doesn't settle whether your job needs one, so before work starts we check with the office that covers your address, whether that's the county or a city like Yuma or Somerton, and if the job needs a permit, we handle the application. Licensing matters too if you're comparing bids, because state law only lets someone without a contractor license take casual or minor jobs under $1,000 total, labor and materials included, and not at all when the work needs a local building permit. If you'd rather do some of it yourself, the state lets owners work on their own home without a license as long as they live in it and it isn't for sale or rent.

We're based in Fortuna Foothills and work across the cities around it, and we see the same setups on jobs in Yuma and Somerton. A lot of the attics we climb into have ductwork running through them, so the foam-or-loose-fill call comes up often, and older houses tend to have more holes drilled through over the years for wiring and plumbing.
